Shredded Turkey Episode Transcript. Length - 34:57 Magnetofunky No. 98. It's Saturday, November 17th, 2018. [intro theme] Hey. Larry here. This week the blue wave kept rolling, even through the rocks - that's something to give thanks for. Meanwhile the Benitez build and the booster box are coming along. The music this week shreds the traditional Turkey Day/Black Friday hype with a few tunes mostly from First Nations rock bands... [song] - 00:55 Yeah. That was Skinalow - Coupstick, an all original no bells and whistles, 5 man Rock and Roll Band out of Denver Colorado. I found them and all the tunes on Reverbnation. Their only website link went to a FB page that stopped in 2015, but that don't mean they stopped. This is a laid back (and often explicit - you bet your ass) weekly international podzine of extremely eclectic music and progressive politics, with a focus on energy independence for the 99%. My podpages are 1223studios.com/mfunky.h and facebook.com/1223Studios. [Grid Theory] - 05:05 Second Base Benitez Ok, In Grid Theory, The Benitez build moves on: I put a backstop on the project board for the rack of batteries for ease of handling on and off the mad scientist TV tray. The wiring for the battery banks is now done, even though 18 gauge wire is stil kinda big for the knife switches, but I'm now on second base, and can move on the much easier remainder of adding the diodes, the resistors, a transistor and reed switch. The blender motor got a reprieve from the project bin last Sunday - in between watching my animes, I checked the state of the damn rotor and discovered that a week or so of soaking in acetone made the wire bundles loose enough to lever out, so instead of trying the silliness of pushing 24V through a 12V motor, we'll see if this blender attraction motor will actually work. That leaves one component to complete the build: a pulley wheel for the magnet to reed switch action. A quick trip to the hardware store turned up a clothesline pulley I'll try to modify. And speaking of the motor, I'm not sure at all that it will work, so just in case, I've been looking at videos on building a brushless motor and I got a 5/16" steel rod that fits the blender motor frame--- [bell] Ok, coming back with the booster box drafting... [Back To The Stage] - 07:10 Ok, Back to The Stage, continuing the first nations beat with The JOHNNYS, an Ontario-based rock’n’roll band founded by spouses Veronica Johnny (lead vocals/ manager/ producer/ writer) and Dave Johnny (drums/ producer/ writer). The Johnnys appear live as a full band, and they’ve played across Canada, and been featured on TV and film. The song, NISAKIHTAN KIYA KISOSKATOWIN, is a reimagined version of I'm Lovin' Your Heat from their 2013 release Rock, sung entirely in Cree. [song] - 07:57 [11:18] Ok, next up we have a piece from someone I'd call a First Nations ally: Stevierigsby, a Singer Songwriter from Corby, UK who spent 20 years busking. The song is Standing Rock... [song] - 11:37 [14:28] All right, we wrap the set with Burn - The Black Owl Society, a Blues / Rock band out of Round Rock, TX, begun as the solo piece brain child of Buffalo Man in early 2010. The last FB post was back in 2014, but put an asterix on that too. And BTW, honorable mention to a few bands that didn't either have a free MP3 or an active weblink - A Tribe Called Red, Redbone, Blackfoot, Testament, Blackfire, Breach Of Trust and Bruthers of Different Muthers, among many others... [song] - 15:24 ["Geeknotes"] - 18:39 Geeknotes: 11/19 - W4tB-Annual LHM Poetry Wheel and Cassaundra Bingaman @ Uncharted Books, Chicago, 11/19 - Public Banking 101 @ Alley Cat Books, SF, 11/19 - Join the Movement Presents - A Benefit for Puerto Rico @ The Chapel, SF, 11/20 - End the War in Yemen Rally @ Pelosi's Office, San Francisco Federal Building, 11/22 - The Truth about Thanksgiving: A Tribute to Indigenous and African People @ Uhuru Pies, Oakland Hey, Geeknotes! Today it's Saturday the 17th of November, And while President Shithole has flown in to pull a driveby on the state and toss a few rolls of paper towels and insults, I'd rather wildly speculate on the 2020 election season that starts now. The party of minions (formerly the GFY-GOP) will make their moves depending on whether P-Grabby actually runs or doesn't, regardless of anything he says. If he does run, expect them to fall in line, and forget the noise about 'he's worried about Pence' - that's just gaslight. If he doesn't run, I'd look for another cage match with Pence, Ohio Governor John Kasich, and Texas Governor Greg Abbott mixing it up with the other 2016 usual suspects, including Ted Cruz' ego and Jeb Bush. For the Dems, the crucial factor will be if Uncle Caligula bows out believing the minions will keep him out of prison. No Democratic candidate can just run against Orange Queenie; it's gotta be the Green New Deal or something like it as a platform, and in any case, the one thing absolutely essential will be the GOP idea of a battle royale - the DNC should keep their dirty hands off the entire process until all the primaries are done, no pre-anointed figures, let everybody who wants in enter the arena and let's have a Democratic Thunderdome and let us decide. Let Hillary in, Bernie in, Eliz. Warren, Kamla Harris, Corey Booker, Maxine Waters, Joe Biden, whoever, and to hell with the corporate media's cynical lineup which will continue the 'Dems in disarray' narrative - I'd love to see a darkhorse enter the fray like Sen. Tammy Baldwin, or even better, Sen. Tammy Duckworth, who could take on Pence or Greg Abbott, and doesn't have a decade's worth of opposition research compiled on her. I'd vote for her in a hot minute; frankly, I'd vote for any of them who comes out on top of an honest Thunderdome (and squash all that NPR noise on what white male I won't vote for - I don't pick a damn demographic, I pick the best leader). Meanwhile, the immediate task is dealing with the flock of angry lame ducks armed with monkeywrenches for the duration to the next Congress. And lastly, don't talk to me about replacing Nancy Pelosi as majority leader and not Chuck Schumer in the Senate - they both go, or they both stay, pain in the ass or not. Anyway, let's run some dates: 11/17 - World Prematurity Day 11/18 - World Day for Road Traffic Victims 11/19 - Int'l Mens Day, World Toilet Day 11/19 - W4tB-Annual LHM Poetry Wheel and Cassaundra Bingaman, 7 PM – 9 PM CST, Uncharted Books, 2620 N Milwaukee Ave, Chicago This show is the annual celebration of the birth of Legendary poet Lesley Heath Morrow. Public banking is where many divestment efforts like prison divestment, fossil fuel divestment, and weapons divestment converge. RE-Investment via public banking has re-emerged as an avenue to fulfill to these calls for divestment while simultaneously taking back control of our own city's money. Here in San Francisco, people are pushing for a movement to divest our city taxpayer money from Wall Street, and reinvest that money into permanently affordable housing, green energy infrastructure, schools and more. ZERO financial background required to come learn how we can take $11 BILLION of SF taxpayer money Out of Wall Street and Into Our Streets! 11/19 - Join the Movement Presents - A Benefit for Puerto Rico Hurricane Relief, 7 PM – 11 PM, The Chapel, 777 Valencia St, SF All proceeds made will be donated to the non-profit organization, “Hood 2 La Gente”. Nancy Pelosi’s office at 90 7th St., San Francisco. While Californians prepare for a Thanksgiving feast, 14 million Yemenis face starvation because of US policy. Come rally for Yemen outside Nancy Pelosi’s San Francisco office! House Concurrent Resolution 138 would direct the President to COMPLETELY withdraw from the war. Pelosi has publicly called for an end to the war, but she has yet to co-sponsor the bill, despite it being supported by nearly every other key Democrat in the House. 11/21 - The Prophet's Birthday, World Television Day 11/22 - The Truth about Thanksgiving: A Tribute to Indigenous and African People, 2:30 PM – 4:30 PM, Uhuru Pies 7911 MacArthur Boulevard, Oakland Uhuru Pies pays tribute to Indigenous and African people, upon whose stolen land, labor and lives this society was built. The booster box is coming along part 3 - the mock up is finished, time to move on to drafting the panels with actual specs, so I picked up the special cement for the ABS plastic and some graph paper to make sure everything is sized and cut properly. After that, the actual diagram of the circuitry, including the wiring of the control panel power switch and output indicators will be the next step. This is my first diagram, and even though I'm just adding on to the existing mini-booster diagram, I'm not in a hurry; I'll be carrying 400 - 600V on my hip and don't want anything to slip. Stay tuned... [One More Tune] - 29:47 For One More Tune, we close out with a piece by Grizzleboogie, a DJ / Beats / Experimental artist in Candler, NC, an avid noise maker and video game addict. That's all the info available, don't know if he or she is indigenous, so the one or two folks out there with a rod up their butt looking to be offended - do your own due diligence. Anyway, the piece is called Native... [song] - 30:23 Well Ok... [Closing] - 33:30 Hey, this show is a 1223studios joint. Show files are at iTunes, Internet Archive, Stitcher, Tunein, Listen Notes, Podknife and Mixcloud. Episode notes are on the podpages, and you can download the MP3 directly. If you like the show, tell your friends, and, enough tiptoeing around these assholes who shoot up black churches and synagoges and call the cops on black and brown people minding their own damn business or just doing their jobs like Jemel Roberson; far as I'm concerned, they're all pop-up Nazis with obvious short fuses and ready enablers, and the next one to go off won't be a surprise either... Show themes "Rocket Power" & "Spy Glass" by NY musician and composer Kevin MacLeod. Some additional audio from freesound.org. Next episode is set for Friday, Nov. 23rd. I'm Larry, trying hard to stay chill at my garrett in the Mission, and this is Magnetofunky, from San Francisco, where we go through, not into, the darkness. |
