Matchbox Studio

(06/05/17)

Ok, the marble is coming along, and summer is heating up, and the show is finally up at iTunes after a 12-Hr lag.
Anyway, the clock's still ticking on the ADC figurines cause I hit a groove with the stone and kept going. So these pics skip through the past couple weeks progress...

The next level of elements can now be realized...

...Now that they can be seen...

...From each angle...

...Front...

This is all hammer and chisel with gentle tapping...

...With the heavy pencil mark showing where not to carve...

Meanwhile, I modified my studio holodeck, reducing it to a booth (40"x40") with sufficient elbow room that's easier to use, less hot and stuffy than the cube and catches all the chips that fly...

The view from the skylight. The virtual space doesn't catch all the stone dust, but it's a big help...

These pics are current to last night...

Freeing up that big element...

This area is all about negative space being restricted and invaded...

The foot area is starting to come clear. It's cool how the final-level elements all around the stone are almost presenting themselves organically...

Cause I didn't want to leave 13 pictures on here for long, it's the next element to try to deal with that big crack...

No way am I going to try this one with a chisel...

Ok, wrapping up the month with a few pics... These three are from the 15th, tracking progress on the tightly intersecting elements before moving on to the back...

...ditto...

This was right before I separated these elements so they can fly free...

The backside will be a big open seam, a lot simpler than other sides, like the foot...

Yeah, another hole to let light play through...

The foot is almost done as far as carving...

I'm not gonna clear the final arch up top until the foot is ready for sanding...

Sanding all this intricate complexity will be interesting...
I've put about 7-8 months of dremel work on this stone so far, but I'm still at second base on it, but it looks like a work in progress now instead of a lump of marble...
